I have been pursuing a pastoral calling for forty years. And I am discerning a need for wisdom in our generation—unlike anything I have sensed before. How about you? It raises an important question. Is evil worse than it has ever been? No, evil has not changed. But… it has never had as many effective delivery systems at its disposal.

Spiritual forces of darkness take many shapes. Yet they all unite and align against those who are faithful to God’s Word. “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” Society pressures us to conform from the outside in. But there is more: “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing.” Popular expressions of Chris-tianity can compromise with culture. The result is a subtle pressure that works from the inside out.

Finding Wisdom for Living: A New Class

Now is a time for us to stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it (Jer 6:16). That, friends, is the heartbeat of my upcoming online class.

Consider the circumstances of Joseph and Mary. The man-centered wisdom of Greek culture was influencing Jewish young people. Their religious leaders, motivated by greed and a lust for power, sought to control the people. Sound familiar? As they turned to God’s Word, they found tools to nurture the young Messiah’s faith in the books of wisdom: Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man. That statement is also a vision of what YHWH, our Father in Heaven, desires to do in and through us.
